About the Author

Born and raised in Joliet, Illinois, Edward J. Merzlock attended local schools. He is retired and still lives in the area. His first writing experience involved producing reports and technical material during his working years. A support group for families dealing with dementia suggested writing as an emotional release. He took the advice and began writing about his Mom’s battle with dementia and his escalating caregiver role. Writing did provide an intangible benefit, so he continued. He was further motivated by positive feedback. The material grew, and a book started to take shape. After his Mom’s passing, he finished the last chapters, providing a retrospective view of this difficult journey. The hardships and rewards of a caregiver are universal and cross many diseases and conditions. He hopes that his experiences provide insights for anyone facing or already on a similar journey.
